Peggy Lewis
1951-2018
Peggy Jean Wilson Lewis, age 66, returned home to her loving Heavenly Father on May 27, 2018 at her home in Lehi, Utah. Peggy‘s courageous fight this year against terminal cancer showed us all her warrior strength and the true example of pushing forward through every obstacle. Peggy was born August 6, 1951, in the Lehi Hospital to Ned F. and Joyce Southwick Wilson.
Growing up Peggy loved spending time with her family and friends. Her neighborhood friends gave her so much joy. She loved being in the plays they would put together in the back yard, going to the Hi Spot to get a Coke and watching Dark Shadows with her mother. Peggy attended Lehi Elementary, Lehi Jr. High and Lehi High School. She was in the Pep Club and in the Color Guard as a baton twirler and there she met the love of her life, Stanley Lewis. They were high school sweethearts. Peggy graduated in 1969, and while Stan served a mission, she attended Utah Technical College in Provo and then moved with one of her best friends to Salt Lake City to work for Burns Detective Agency. While working at Burns she saved enough money to buy matching shoes and a bag for every outfit. Needless to say, her love of shopping never wavered.
Stanley George Lewis and Peggy Jean Wilson were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 17, 1971. They were blessed with five beautiful children as they created their life and business together in Lehi. They owned and ran Lewis Livestock. Peggy always teased that she owned 51% of the family ranch. While running the business, Peggy was a busy mother of five children. She took them to school, dance, piano, practice, games, rodeos, etc. When asked what her hobbies were, Peggy would always say, “My children are my hobbies.” She had no greater joy in life than to support and love her children in their many adventures.
When her two youngest children were in junior high and high school, she took a job at the Lehi High School Counseling Office to help oversee scholarships and career opportunities for graduating seniors. This work became one of Peggy’s greatest passions over the last 20 years–helping students receive scholarships to help pursue their dreams.
Peggy loved and had a strong testimony of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her testimony was the foundation that her children were taught– that families will be together forever. The knowledge of eternal families is what she found comfort in. Peggy was always serving in the church and had various callings: Relief Society President, Primary President, Stake Young Women’s President, Single Adult Institute teacher, Activities Committee (Party Planner) serving in multiple singles wards, and built ward floats for the Lehi Round-Up Celebration Miniature Float Parade. Her favorite calling of all was being on a float committee, she always cherished the friendships and relationships that were created while building the ward floats. Those friendships and memories were a true treasure in her heart.
She was a devoted community servant and loved being a part of the Lehi Round-Up Celebration and Rodeo. Peggy loved the week of the Lehi Round-Up and created a family tradition that will never end. To Peggy, traditions were what kept families together and that was the most important thing in her life. For many years she had been a part of various committees and organizations. Peggy was the PTA President and served with the local elementary schools and with Alpine School District. She was on the Miss Lehi Pageant Committee, and the Lehi 125th Birthday Committee. For several years Stan and Peggy were the Lehi Longhorn High School Rodeo Advisors, which through their service created lasting friendships all over the state of Utah.
The Lewis Family would like to thank Huntsman Cancer Institute and the many medical professionals who aided in caring for their wife and mother. Peggy was preceded in death by her Mother (Joyce), Father (Ned) and sister (Nancy Hunter). She is survived by her husband Stan Lewis; children, Susan (Jared) Peterson; Lisa Lewis; Tom (Lacee) Lewis; John (Lacy) Lewis; Natalie (Layne) Larsen; brother, Gordon (Dixie) Wilson; sister, Kellie Jo (Darin) Jones; and her greatest legacy and joy, her 16 grandchildren.
Peggy’s final request was that in lieu of flowers, donations be made at any Central Bank location in honor of the “Lewis Strong Scholarship.”
