Virginia Tripp Downs

Our sweet mother Virginia Tripp Downs, 86, passed away September 5, 2017 at her home in Lehi, Utah. The daughter of George Washington Tripp and Inez Wilkins Tripp, raised in Calleo, Utah. She never lost her love for the Tripp Ranch in the West Dessert.

Virginia married her high school sweetheart George LaVere Downs, August 5, 1950 and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They had a cherished 61 years together.

Virginia lived her life to the fullest, always serving others, neighbors, family members, and the city of Lehi she loved dearly. She worked for Durfey Dry Cleaner and for over 20 years for Alpine School District as the Lunchroom Manager at American Fork High School.

Virginia and her sweetheart served over 40 years in the Utah High School Rodeo Association, 22 years with the Utah Valley Football, and served in the Lehi Civic Improvement Association for over 40 years. She enjoyed The Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and the Letitian Ladies Club. Virginia held every church position possible and loved them all; she loved to be of service. Virginia loved beautiful flowers, her yard, a good book, quilting, a good puzzle, and the Utah Jazz.

She is survived by five sons and one daughter; Clint (Winnifred), Layne (Diane), Drew (Lari (deceased), Adele), Cindy (William) Sunderland, Harley (Collette), Brooke (Sally), 31 Grandchildren, 60 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great, Great Grandchildren, foster Mother to six Indian children for 19 years, brothers; Doyle, and Boyd, sisters; Deon and Eudene. Preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Mark, Blaine, George, Russell, and sisters; Phyllis, Maxine, Beverly, and Carol, Daughter-in-law Lari Peck-Downs, Grandson Corey Adamson-Downs, and Great Grandson Matthew Poulton. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and neighbor; she will be missed.

The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation for the care and kindness shown to our Mother the last few weeks of her life by hospice, Kim, Leah, and Mahama.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 15, 2017 at 11 a.m.in the Lehi South Stake Center, 600 South 500 West. A viewing will be held 6-8 p.m., Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Wing Mortuary, 118 East Main, Lehi, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment, Lehi City Cemetery.
