Jennings Avery Whitener (“Ave”) was called home early Saturday July 16th, 2016. He was born Aug 11, 1948 in Lehi, UT to William Marshall and Hilda Thompson Whitener. He married the love of his life, Linda Lou Nielson, on May 19, 1978 in Highland, UT.

He spent the bulk of his career (over 20 years) working at the Utah State Developmental Center, where he was loved by all of his coworkers and those he provided care for. He was a talented artist and craftsman. There was nothing he couldn’t build or figure out. He loved playing cards, going camping with his siblings and family, any type of puzzle, mind, or trivia game, and all types of music.

He had an amazing memory, and could tell you any family member’s birthday when asked. He was kind, caring, selfless, and a shining example of everything a husband, father, brother, and friend should be. Survived by sons, David (Sheila) Cox, Springville; Chris (Jalin) Cox, Pleasant Grove; Joshua (Nena) Cox, Springville; Adam Whitener, Lehi; 15 Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren, sisters; Mary Jacobs, Judy (Dutch) Turner, Vadah (Larry) Conder, Dorthea (Chris) Miles, Elaine (Nile) Wilkin, sister-in-law Verla Whitener. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Jim Whitener, and brother-in-law Robert Jacobs.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 22, 2016 at Wing Mortuary, 118 East Main Lehi, Utah. Family and friends may call Thursday evening from 6–8 p.m. at the Mortuary and from 9:30 a.m.–10:30 a.m. prior to the service Friday morning. Interment, Lehi City Cemetery.
